Samuel D. Smith died Sunday night at the resident of his son, Charles E. Smith, on West Wabash Avenue. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, services conducted by Rev. J. G. Stevens. Interment was at Oak Hill.
Mr. Smith was one of the pioneers of Montgomery County and a man with a large circle of friends, being liked by all who knew him. He was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, Jan. 4, 1824, and came to this county with his parents in 1832, giving him a residence of sixty three years here in Crawfordsville. For many years he conducted a prosperous tailoring business and in the seventies was elected sheriff of the county. He was a man of many good traits and kindness of heart. He leaves four children, F. C. Smith, F. W. Smith, C. E. Smith, and Mrs. Samuel Robinson.
